Tramadol
Essentially a pain reliever, Tramadol was developed by the German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal GmbH in late 1970s. Tramadol is prescribed to relieve extreme pain that needs constant treatment. It is used generally to treat pain, depression, or phobias on a limited scale as doctors have not yet endorsed its wide scale usage.
It is available in various forms such as capsules, tablets (chewable or otherwise), extended release capsules, effervescent tablets and powders etc. Do not break the tablet, and use powder in a fluid to inject as it may result in an overdose, or death.
Because of its effect on the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems, people with addiction history shouldn’t opt for Tramadol. It may also cause seizures; sometimes on its own in patients with seizures history or if taken with anti-depressants or relaxants. The seizure risk is higher if you’ve had head injury, epilepsy, metabolic disorders, or drug addiction etc. While safe dosage is only 300 milligrams in 24 hours, it should never be taken without doctor’s prescription or as self medication.
An overdose of Tramadol can be deadly, thus caution is advised. Also, you should not use
Tramadol pill if you’ve recently had alcohol, sleeping pills, medicine for mental disorders or illness, or narcotic medicine.
Giving up Tramadol shouldn’t be sudden. The doctor who initially prescribed the medicine should be consulted to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sleeplessness, tremors, diarrhea etc. The doctor should also be informed if you have liver disease, stomach issues, kidney disease, or mental health issues. This would, most likely, result in a doze adjustment so it may not harm you.
Tramadol could be extremely dangerous for unborn babies (in case of a pregnant mother on treatment), or nursing babies (through breast feeding). The usage is not advised for women who are or planning to become pregnant.
